Nexans Turkey signature at the world's most prestigious desulfurization facility, Thermoelectric Power Plant Nikola Tesla

Nexans Turkey, in cooperation with Coptech Serbia, will supply 147 km of cable (38 km MV, 110 km LV) for “Desulphurization of Thermoelectric Power Plant Nikola Tesla”, which has key importance for the sustainable electrification of Serbia and Southeast Europe.
"Thermoelectric Power Plant Nikola Tesla" has 14 units with a total installed power of 3,429.5 megawatts, which is one third of the installed capacity of Elektroprivreda Srbije (Public Enterprize Electric Power Industry of Serbia)  and produces more than 50% of Serbian electricity annually.

Built in 1970, plant was not in alignment with EU environmental standards regarding the emission of SO2, creating large amount of sulphur in flue gases & causing air contamination. With commissioning of the project, total sulfur dioxide emissions will decrease from 3,000 milligrams to 130 milligrams per cubic meter, in line with EU standards. Level of solid particles released into the atmosphere will also decrease from 50 milligrams per cubic meter to less than 10 milligrams. Flue gas desulfurization process will also produce gypsum, which is used in construction and road buildings.

Elektroprivreda Srbije will invest 210 million Euros for the construction of flue gas desulfurization plant in both units of "Thermoelectric Power Plant Nikola Tesla".
Nevzat Şenkal, Sales Manager, Nexans Turkey said: “As Nexans, we are proud to take part in such a large-scale project as the Nikola Tesla Power TENT A & TENT B Desulfurization Plant. In line with Nexans' carbon neutrality target by 2030, we are also happy to contribute to the future of our planet with this project.”
Alekandar Stankovic, Director, Coptech, added: “We are delighted to be working with Nexans on such an important project. Along with their expertise in power cable, Nexans' flexibility to accurately analyze their customers' needs and provide solutions for these critical projects in Serbia and other markets is invaluable to us.”
